John Molnar was born in Welland, Ontario and
had an early interest in art. After graduating from the
Ontario College of Art in Toronto, he pursued
a career as a commercial illustrator before turning
to fine art in the late 80's. During his lifetime,
John exhibited in Canada and the United States
and his works hang in many private and
corporate collections.
Known
for his lush landscape paintings,
primarily in oil or casein, John was the subject
of a feature article in the February 2004 and the
July 2003 issue of "The Artist's Magazine,"
the October 2002 issue of "American Artist,"
and the June 2000 issue of
"International Artist Magazine." All
four
articles focused on his work in casein.
In
2003, John was recognized for his
achievements in casein and was invited
to judge the 2003 International Casein Art
Competition sponsored by Jack Richeson & Co,
"American Artist," and the National Society
of Painters in Casein & Acrylic.
John was one of 30 artists
selected to be featured in the book entitled
"My Friends, Today's Great Masters,”
published by Jack Richeson
in 2007.
John was artist in residence at
Workman Arts in Toronto from 2009-2010.
He also taught Art Fundamentals and
En plein air painting at Workman Arts. In addition,
John taught landscape painting workshops through
the Artsperience Program at Canadore College in
North Bay, Ontario for five years and also taught
at Curry's Art School.
He was an active member of the
Federation of Canadian Artists
and the Ontario
Society of Artists (OSA),
Canada's first society for artists.
